Measure in inches the length, width and depth of the lime being weighed.
Multiply the three dimensions together to find the cubic inches of the lime.
Divide the result by 1,728, as there are 1,728 cubic inches in a cubic foot; this will tell you how many cubic feet of lime are being used.
Assess the type of lime being used. Lime is available as lumps of quick lime, finely granulated quick lime and in lime stone form.
Multiply the cubic feet by the appropriate weight to match your style of lime. For quick lumps, multiply by 53 pounds per cubic foot; for granulated, multiply by 75 pounds per cubic foot; and for stone, multiply by 168 pounds per cubic foot.
Divide the result by 2,000, as there are 2,000 pounds in a ton, in order to determine how many tons of lime you have.
