How to Replace 40-inch Huskee Lawn Mower Blades

The cutting blades on a Huskee, or Husqvarna, 40-inch lawn mower require regular removal for sharpening and replacement. These metal blades will dull whenever they hit a surface that's harder than grass, such as rocks. If the blade hits something even harder, like a curb, the blade may get dented and damaged. Husqvarna recommends replacing any dented or damaged blades immediately. Damaged blades will produce uneven cuts and may not cut any grass at all.

Position the Huskee lawn mower onto a level surface. Depress the foot brake and turn the parking brake switch to the "Engaged" position. Move the clutch lever to the neutral position. Turn the ignition off and take the key out of the engine.

Unhook the black rubber boot from the end of the spark plug to prevent any accidental start ups. Pull the attachment lift lever up to raise the mowing deck to its highest setting.

Loosen the hex nut in the center of the cutting blade with the wrench. Unscrew the hex nut all the way with your fingers and slide off the blade, locking washer and flat washer.

Position the new lawn mower blade onto the housing post. Align the new blade so the trailing edge faces up towards the mowing deck. Set the flat washer and locking washer onto the blade. Refit the hex nut and tighten with your fingers. Secure the hex nut bolt to 35 lbs. per foot of torque.
