How to Change 40-Inch Huskee Lawn Mower Blades

The lawn mower blades on a 40-inch Huskee, or Husqvarna, will often hit hard objects, such as small stones, during operation. These objects will gradually dull the cutting edge on the metal blades. A properly sharpened blade is necessary for the best results. Dull, bent or damaged blades will produce an uneven cut and may not cut at all. Replace or change damaged or bent cutting blades, and sharpen any moderately dull blades.

  Park the Huskee lawn mower on a flat area. Push the foot brake in and engage the safety brake switch to activate the brake. Slide the clutch into the neutral position.

  Turn the key to "Off" and take it out of the ignition. Unfasten the black spark plug wire from the end of the spark plug before replacing the blade. Raise the mower's attachment lift lever so the deck is at its highest position.

  Unscrew the hex bolt in the center of the blade with the socket wrench. Take the hex bolt, locking washer and flat washer off the blade housing post. Slide the cutting blade off the post.

  Fit the new mower blade onto the housing post. Make sure the trailing edge of the blade faces up towards the deck. Fit the flat washer, locking washer and hex nut on top of the cutting blade. Tighten the hex nut with the socket wrench and lower the deck to start cutting again.
