How to Change Blades in a Cub Cadet 364 Mower

The Cub Cadet Model 364 zero-turn lawn mower operates with multiple cutting blades. These blades revolve at high speeds, and if they hit anything harder than grass they will dull. If the blades repeatedly hit hard objects, they may get damaged to the point that you need to change them. You also need to replace blades when they've been sharpened repeatedly and are starting to get too small. Cutting with dull or damaged blades will produce poor, uneven cutting of the grass.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Drive the Cub Cadet 364 onto a level surface. Put the Cub Cadet into park and engage the parking brake. Slide the clutch lever into the "Disengaged" setting. Turn the ignition key to the "Off" setting and take the key out.

    • 2

Pull the spark plug wire off the end of the spark plug. Raise the mowing deck to its highest setting to gain access to the mowing blades. Position the block of wood beneath the underside of the mowing deck. Rotate the blade until it stops against the wood.

    • 3

Hold the cutting blade with a gloved hand and unscrew the center hex nut. Remove the hex nut and the washer from the post. Pull the mower blade off the post. Put the new blade into position, making sure the trailing edge faces up toward the deck.

Fit the washer and hex nut to the post. Tighten the hex nut to 100 ft.-lbs. of torque with the socket wrench. Take the block of wood out and repeat for every cutting blade on the mower. Lower the deck to resume cutting.
