Place a garden hose on the ground to visualize the planned border of the garden. Bend the garden hose to fit any configuration. Mark the position of the hose on the ground with spray paint after you determine the final design.
Cut through the sod along the paint marked line. Use a round-tipped shovel or a soil cutter to cut through the sod. Remove the sod on the inside or garden side of the border. Excavate the edge area to a uniform depth of about 2 inches.
Place the edging material along the edge. Curved borders require short pieces of edging material. Use bricks or pavers placed on the edge of the garden. Another option for brick or paver edges is to place the material on edge at an angle. Place subsequent bricks an angle with the brick resting on the previous brick.
Continue placing bricks or pavers along the length of the curved border. Cut the bricks as needed for end pieces with a masonry saw.
