How to Dry a Fall Corn Field

Corn is a crop commonly grown on farms and rural areas. You must harvest it in the warmer months and pick it to eat once it is fully grown. Before you can eat your corn, you must remove the moisture from it. You can dry your corn in two ways before you eat it; both methods can make your fresh corn taste that much better.

Instructions

  1. Drying Before Removing the Kernels

    • 1

Pull all the ears of corn off by hand. Remove the husks from the outside of each ear of corn.

    • 2

Throw the ears of corn into a mesh bag one by one, then hang it in a cool, dry place for several months and let it dry out on its own. Tie the bag up in the air on the wall or ceiling.

    • 3

Remove the bag from the wall or ceiling, and take out the ears of corn. Lay them on a flat surface and check to verify they have dried properly.

    Drying the Corn After Husking

    • 4

Pull all the ears of corn off by hand, and remove the husks. Boil a big pot of water, and soak the corn in the boiling water for two minutes. Remove all the ears of corn from the water.

    • 5

Cut the kernels off the cob with a kitchen knife. Press the knife into the top of a piece of corn, and move down slightly underneath the corn to remove it from the cob. Repeat the process all the way around the corn until you have removed all the kernels.

    • 6

Spread out the cut kernels on a tray, and set them in the sun to dry for three days. Bring the tray indoors at night, and take it back outside to dry off more during the day.
