How to Cover a Clay Pot With Fabric

One of the staples any gardener has in her shed or garage is a collection of terracotta pots. This is because the pots are durable, simple to clean and come in several sizes. Your trusty terracotta clay pots may have lasted you throughout the years, but they can be boring in appearance. Add a bit of personality to your pots by covering them with fabric. If you do gardening projects with your kids, this is a great way to get them involved.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the outside of the thick rim on the pot. Measure around the rim, and the height of the rim.

    • 2

Measure around the lower part of the pot and its height up to the bottom edge of the rim, as well.

    • 3

Draw on the fabric the two shapes for the pot, according to the measurements you took. Note that the images you draw will not look like the pot in shape, as they need to wrap all the way around the pot.

    • 4

Cut the fabric shapes out along the drawn lines.

    • 5

Apply a thick layer of tacky craft glue to the outside rim of the pot with a paintbrush and press the narrower strip of fabric over the glue.

    • 6

Repeat the gluing process in Step 5 for the larger piece of fabric for the bottom of the pot.
