Select a corner of the yard to place your pulsating sprinkler. Most sprinklers rest on a base. Some stand on a tripod. Stretch a garden hose over to the pulsating sprinkler and place its end in the water intake valve. Tighten the hose in place by turning the plastic clamp.
Spread the two collars on the pulsating sprinkler's neck. Open them up to point toward the two sides of the corner. Lower the clip so it rests between the two collars. If you leave the clip up, the pulsating sprinklers goes all the way around in a continuous pattern. Leave the clip up if you have an open yard and you place the sprinkler in the yard's center.
Push down the water deflector to reduce the distance the water travels. The deflector is in front of where the water exits the sprinkler head. Leave the deflector up to allow the water to travel as far as possible. The distance depends on the brand of pulsating sprinkler you own.
Turn the water on from the nozzle and observe the pulsating sprinkler's spray pattern. Adjust the collars to keep the water within the desired area. Open or close the deflector to increase or decrease how far the water travels.
