DIY Boomless Sprayer Nozzle

A boomless sprayer can be constructed and used to water your lawn, garden or flower beds. These sprayers can also be used for spreading liquid fertilizer or pest control products. Sprayer nozzles for these sprayers can be purchased from vendors, gardening stores and some hardware stores. The store bought, pre-assembled nozzles can be costly. An alternative to buying these nozzles is making your own with a few pieces of hardware and tools regularly found in a toolbox.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a 3/8 inch pipe plug in a clamp secured to a solid, stable surface. Position the pipe plug vertically so the flat, solid head is face down and the threaded section is on top. Make sure that you can easily reach the center of the plug.

    • 2

Draw a vertical line through the top, flat section of the plug. Draw a horizontal line through top of the plug.

    • 3

Insert a 1/8 inch drill bit into the drill. Position the drill over the top of the plug so the bit is in a vertical position. Center the bit on the intersection of the horizontal and vertical line.

    • 4

Drill through the center of the plug until the are approximately 1/2 of the way through the depth of the head.

    • 5

Remove the plug from the clamp. Turn the plug so that it is in a vertical position. Tighten the clamp so that the head of the plug is exposed.

    • 6

Measure the depth of the head. Mark the center of the head around the circumference.

    • 7

Cut off the top of the head using the marks made in Step 6.

    • 8

Remove the plug from the clamp and check whether the 1/8 inch hole extends through the entire length of the plug. Place the plug back in the clamp and repeat the drilling process until this goal is achieved.

    • 9

Slide the threaded end of the plug into the tubing. This step may require manipulation to ensure that the plug is properly seated.
