Identify the water outlet that you will use to supply the sprinkler system.
Fill the measuring cup with water from the outlet and pour the water into the bucket. Repeat this process until five gallons of water have been poured into the bucket. This will take 19 liters or 80 cups, depending on the standards of measurement displayed on the cup.
Mark the water line on the inside of the bucket with the permanent marker. Dump the water.
Turn the spigot of the water outlet to its maximum water output. Place the bucket under the water outlet while simultaneously starting your timer.
Stop the timer and turn off the spigot when the water level reaches the mark that was previously made.
Divide 300 by the number of seconds it took the water to reach the line. This sum represents the number of gallons per minute that the water outlet could provide to the sprinkler system.
