Move the Locke Reel mower to a flat location that will give you plenty of room to work around the mower.
Loosen the reel adjusting screw with a screwdriver until the reel just touches the bedknife. Do this on both sides of the mower.
Connect a lapping motor to the reel. If needed, use the Lapping Adapter available from Locke.
Use a brush to apply lapping compound to the reel. Be sure to coat all the blades evenly.
Press forward on each of the clutch levers to engage the clutches.
Turn on the lapping motor. Gently pull the mower backward to start the lapping action.
It is normal to hear grinding sounds as the blades are ground down.
Continue lapping the blades until you can no longer hear the grinding sounds.
Rinse the mower with a garden hose. Allow the blades time to try.
Readjust the blades to the original position.
