How to Remove the Mower Deck on a John Deere 214

If you need to complete maintenance on your John Deere 214 mower deck, you must remove it from the lawn tractor fist. This includes replacing the drive belt and taking off the mower blades located under the deck. Fortunately, John Deere designed the mower so the average DIY repairman can take the deck off in the comfort of his own garage or backyard. In fact, to remove the deck, you will not require the use of any hand tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Drive your John Deere 214 onto level stable ground and set the parking brake. Turn off the ignition and allow the mower 30 minutes of cooling time before you start to work on it.

    • 2

Place a block under each side of the mower deck, and then lower the height adjustment lever to lower the deck onto the blocks. This releases tension on the mower deck mounting bars.

    • 3

Pull the cotter pins out of the larger pins that hold the mounting bars onto the mounting brackets located under the mower deck.

    • 4

Slide the larger pins out of their holes. Lower the mounting bars downward and away from the underside of the mower.

    • 5

Slide the mower deck forward several inches, and then locate the clutch pulley mounted under the engine. Pull the drive belt off the clutch pulley.

    • 6

Remove the blocks from under the mower deck. Carefully lower the deck to the ground, and then slide the deck out from under the lawn tractor.
