How to Identify a Deutz Tractor

Deutz-Fahr builds tractors for farming and for use on large amounts of land. The company started in 1927, so they are not new to the farm tractor business. One feature that has helped their brand stand out is their unique color; the tractors have a vibrant, lime green body. With this color, their tractors look different from any other tractor on the market. If you are unsure of what make your tractor is, there a few methods you can use to identify whether or not it is a Deutz.

Instructions

    • 1

Examine the body of the tractor for the manufacturer's name. Deutz tractors will have "Deutz-Fahr" painted on the side or front.

    • 2

Determine the tractor's color. Deutz-Fahr tractors are a vibrant, lime green. John Deere tractors, a competitor to Deutz-Fahr tractors, are also green. However, Deutz-Fahr tractors are bright green, while John Deere tractors are a darker green, resembling the color of grass. If a tractor is any other color than vibrant, lime green, then it is not a Deutz-Fahr tractor.

Read the owner's manual, if available. Each piece of large equipment is sold new with an owner's manual. The front of the book or the general information page will say what brand the tractor is.

    • 4

Look for a sticker listing the information on the tractor itself. Check the motor housing for this sticker. The manufacturer of the tractor is listed on this sticker.

    • 5

Search for the tractor's product name. Common Deutz-Fahr product names are "Agrokid," "Agrolux," "Agroplus" and "Agrofarm."

    • 6

Open the hood on the tractor. Deutz-Fahr tractors are made either by Deutz-Fahr or Mitsubishi. The name is stamped on the inside of the engine, usually on the main part of the engine's chassis.

    • 7

Determine what kind of fuel the tractor runs on. Since 1962 and the manufacture of the Deutz D 2505, Deutz-Fahr tractors run on diesel fuel because the fuel is better for hauling and pulling. If your 1980s model tractor runs on gasoline, then it is not a Deutz-Fahr.

Look for the Deutz Power Control, which is commonly shortened to "DPC." DPC tractors are electronic engine controlled machines that use the Deutz Common-Rail system to provide better fuel mileage. DPC is unique to Deutz-Fahr tractors because it was developed in their own laboratories. DPC is found on many Deutz-Fahr tractors like the Agrotron TTV.
