Move the control switch to the "ON" position if the engine will not start. Make sure the fuel tank is full.
Press the primer bulb fully down between five and seven times before attempting to start the trimmer.
Move the "EZ-Start" lever all the way to the left until it locks into place. Pull the starter rope up to five times to start the engine. Extend it fully with each sharp pull, and let it retract slowly.
Remove the screws holding the air filter cover in place, using a flat blade screwdriver, if the engine will not idle. Push the cover up and back to remove it. Wash the filter in water and detergent if it is dirty. Coat the filter lightly with SAE 30 oil. Squeeze the excess oil out. Replace the filter in the compartment. Replace the cover.
Drain the gas tank if the oil and gas mixture is old. Refill with fresh gas and two-cycle oil at a ratio of 32 parts gas to 1 part oil.
Unplug the spark plug wire to inspect the spark plug. Remove the spark plug with a spark plug wrench if it is dirty or worn. Wipe the spark plug with a lint-free cloth to clean it. Replace with a new spark plug if it is worn.
Tap the cutting attachment on the ground with the Troy-Bilt trimmer running in high speed if not enough line is exposed. Repeat until the line is a sufficient length.
