Troubleshoot a Poulan 2150 Predator Chain Saw That Will Not Start

The Poulan 2150 Predator chain saw only needs a combination of air and fuel ignited by a spark to start. However, if air, fuel or spark drops even a little in quantity or quality, the likely result is that the chain saw won't start. When troubleshooting the starting problem, focus on these three elements or the lack thereof. While performing basic maintenance and cleaning procedures, look for the missing element. However, for many problems of this nature, it may be best to leave these repairs to a professional.

  • Approved fuel container
  • Metal hook
  • Replacement fuel filter
  • Brush

Instructions

    • 1

Switch off the Predator's engine and wait for the engine to cool down at least 30 minutes before attempting any troubleshooting. Loosen and remove the gas cap. Tilt the Predator on its side and drain any remaining fuel into the fuel container.

    • 2

Pull the fuel filter and fuel line to the opening with the metal hook. Pull the fuel filter off the fuel line. Press the replacement fuel filter into the main fuel line. Inspect the inside of the fuel tank for any dirt or debris. Brush out the tank if necessary. Fill the Predator with freshly mixed Poulan chain saw fuel.

    • 3

Close the choke lever, on the side, near the rear handle. Unscrew the cylinder cover on top of the engine. Take the cover off and slide out the air filter element. Brush off the cylinder cover, the air filter box and the air filter. Replace the air filter if it can't be cleaned.

    • 4

Brush off the area around the cylinder fins, lightly and carefully. Inspect the area around the cylinder and carburetor for any signs of fuel leaks or damage. Unhook the rubber boot from the spark plug's tip.

    • 5

Loosen and remove the spark plug with the socket wrench and spark plug socket. Install the new spark plug if the old plug's tip is black, bent or rounded off. Replace the spark plug yearly on the Predator. Refit the air filter and cylinder cover and try to restart the saw.
