How to Move a Brush Hog

A brush hog is a handled machine with a large and powerful weed whacker-like attachment on the front that cuts through tall weeds and even smaller saplings and twigs. Larger brush hogs can be attached to a tractor and pulled around to mow tall grass, powered by the power take-off on the tractor. Moving a brush hog can be challenging because they are often heavy and bulky, making them difficult to maneuver.

Instructions

    • 1

Push a handled brush hog around with the motor off. If there is a gear system, place the gear shift in neutral to enable easier pushing. If you are going up a hill, it will be easier to pull the machine rather than try to push it.

Attach a brush hog to a tractor or a truck with a tow-hitch for moving short distances. If you must remove the brush hog from a garage, barn or other area of the yard, a tractor or truck will make it easier.

Use a trailer to move a brush hog a longer distance. In this case, you will need someone experienced with backing up a trailered vehicle. The brush hog must be manuevered onto the trailer backwards, essentially being pushed up the ramp of the trailer by the back end of the truck or tractor.
