How to Know When a Leaf Vacuum Is Full

A leaf vacuum is a very useful gardening tool during the autumn for any yard that is overhung by trees. When the leaves turn brown and fall off the trees, they can cover the lawn and flower beds. This is not bad for the plants as the leaves decompose as fertilizer, but wet leaves can make paths and driveways dangerous. As with indoor vacuums, it is important to know when the bag is full.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the indicator light. Like indoor vacuum cleaners, some leaf vacuums have a light that comes on when the bag is full.

    • 2

Look at and feel the bag where the leaves are collected. When it looks and feels full, it probably is full.

    • 3

Put your hand underneath the tube of the leaf vacuum but not actually on it. If it feel as if it is lacking suction, the problem may be a blocked filter, but lack of suction may also indicate the bag is full.

    • 4

Note how well the leaf vacuum picks up leaves when it is empty. If it later becomes harder for it to suck up vegetation, the bag may need emptying.
