How to Install a Severe Weather Lattice

Lattice is a repetitively patterned sheet of woven strips and traditionally made of wood. It is used for outdoor privacy screens, decorative edging or as a climbing apparatus for plants. Contemporary lattice is made of polyethylene. Unlike wood, it won't rot, split or discolor. Polyethylene lattice has a wood-grain appearance, comes in a variety of colors, cuts easily and requires little maintenance. Severe Weather lattice is a brand name sold exclusively at Lowe's home-improvement stores. Each panel has a peg that can be hammered into the ground or sit flat on a deck. The assembly of a privacy screen is simply a matter of locking the panels together. Using Severe Weather lattice as a decorative edge for a deck requires additional labor.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the distances between the end joists of the deck and between the rim joist and the ground.

    • 2

Place the lattice sheet on top of two workhorses. Measure the lattice sheet for the desired area. Draw straight lines on the sheet where the lattice is to be cut.

    • 3

Cut the lattice sheet as measured using a circular saw or hand saw. A circular saw will give a much cleaner cut, require less effort and reduce errors.

    • 4

Place the cut piece of lattice in position. Drill pilot holes through the lattice and into the end and rim joists so the lattice screws will go in smoothly and with less effort.

    • 5

Secure the lattice to the end joists and rim joists with lattice screws.
