How to Dispose of Mixed Lime Sulfur Spray

Mixed lime sulfur spray is a pesticide used in the landscape to control scale, mealy bugs, spider mites and bores. It is also used to treat several plant diseases, such as powdery mildew, leaf blotch and rust blights. As with any chemical, use according to label instructions and dispose of it in a way that is mandated by your local government.

      Ask your neighbors or family if they could use your leftover lime sulfur spray before disposing of the bottle. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, this is the best way to dispose of pesticides.

      Contact your local solid waste agency to find out how you should dispose of the empty bottle or the partially filled bottle. Call 1-800-253-2687 (1-800-CLEANUP) to find your local facility, or look online or in a phone book.

      Dispose of the lime sulfur spray as directed by your local solid waste agency. If the bottle is empty, you may be able to throw it directly in the trash. Secure it in a plastic bag first. If some of the lime sulfur is still in the bottle, chances are you must dispose of it at your local household hazardous waste facility.
