How to Make the Rubber Washers for Soaker Hoses

Soaker hoses are a convenient way to water a lawn or garden. The hose has tiny ports along its entire length and allows water to slowly soak the area where you place the hose. Washers sit in the bottom of the fittings at the ends of the soaker hose to keep them from leaking. A common problem with soaker hoses is that with use, the washers fall out and become lost. You can make your own replacement washers for your soaker hose using a straightforward procedure.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the soaker hose fitting, open side down, on a sheet of gasket material. Purchase gasket material in sheets from a hardware or home improvement store. Trace around the edge of the fitting using an ink pen.

    • 2

Draw a circle inside the one you traced from the fitting. Make the inner circle the approximate size of the opening of the hose in the fitting.

    • 3

Cut out the inner circle first using a utility knife. Take your time and ensure that you cut on the line you drew.

    • 4

Repeat the cutting procedure for the outer circle. Place the washer into the fitting and make necessary adjustments with the utility knife to make it fit.
