How to Fix the Handle on a B & D Electric Mower

The handle of a Black and Decker lawnmower contains the throttle lever and routes the electrical cord safely away from the cutting blades to the mower deck. Fixing the handle -- if it fails to perform its job, feels unusual or appears damaged -- involves an inspection of the component parts and making any necessary repairs. A broken handle makes the mower hard to steer and operate.

Loosen the bottom knobs on either side if the handle feels too high or awkward. Pull the handle into the correct position and re-tighten the knobs to hold the handle in place. These knobs enable the handle to fold down on top of the deck for easier storage. The handle should be re-positioned every time the mower is removed from long-term storage.

Make sure each of the four knobs on the handle is as tight as possible. The upper pair pinch the top section of the handle, holding it in place. When loosened, the handle can be raised or lowered to suit people of different heights. If any of the knobs are loose the handle can tip or drop down awkwardly.

Tighten the screw holding the electrical switch to the right side of the handle if it feels loose. The switch should be within finger reach for the mower to be operated safely. At the same time, make sure the power cable is properly looped through the switch so it's kept out of the way of the mower deck.
