How to Combine Lattice Panels for a Backdrop

Lattice makes an attractive and durable backdrop for growing vines, such as morning glories or wisteria. A lattice panel comes in several different sizes and different weaves. Occasionally, the lattice a gardener has on hand for a project will not be wide enough. In this case, overlapping the lattice can do the trick.

Instructions

Measure the area for the backdrop with a measuring tape. Take note of any odd sizing requirements and whether there will be any dips or bends in the backdrop when finished. Pull any weeds or debris out of the path of the new backdrop. Clean the area that will be in front of the backdrop to allow for ease of movement and installation.

Cut the lattice to the desired height with a circular saw and a paneling blade. Lay two pieces next to each other on the work surface or a flat piece of ground. Overlap each piece by 1 inch and check how well it lines up. Trim or flip the lattice to make the edges line up better, if necessary. Tape the lattice in place with duct tape.

Secure the lattice together. Drill small holes through the overlap of both lattice pieces with an electric drill. Place a 1-inch bolt through the top of one hole and secure with a nut on the back of the overlap. Repeat with the rest of the overlaps.

Paint the lattice in the color of your choice. Secure to the wall or other final location.
