Instructions

  1. Small Tools

    • 1

Measure and cut a pegboard to fit the size you want.

    • 2

Use a stud finder to locate the studs if the wall is finished. Cut two 2-by-4 boards that match the height of the pegboard, and nail them to the studs along the outer edges of the pegboard. If the wall is unfinished and the studs are visible, skip this step.

    • 3

Hold the pegboard against the studs with the help of an assistant. Drill a pilot hole through the holes in the corners of the pegboard and into the studs.

    • 4

Screw the pegboard to the studs where you drilled the pilot holes. Place a washer between each screw and the pegboard.

    • 5

Place your hand tools onto the peg board with hooks. Arrange the tools until they are organized in a way that works best for you.

    • 6

Trace the outline of the tools onto the pegboard. This allows you to easily place the tools back into their correct location.

    Large Tools

    • 7

Measure and cut a 2-by-4 board to fit the length of the rack that you want.

    • 8

Use a stud finder to locate the studs and mark all of the studs that the rack will span, if the wall is finished. If the wall is unfinished, skip this step.

    • 9

Hold the 2-by-4 against the wall with the help of an assistant. Place a level on top of the rack so you install it straight across the wall.

    • 10

Nail the 2-by-4 into the studs.

    • 11

Place the tools along the wall in the order in which you want to hang them. This allows you to determine which order works best for you, as well as the spacing you need.

    • 12

Drill pilot holes into the 2-by-4 for the screw-in hooks. Hang the tools on the hooks.
