How to Build an Inexpensive Wooden Plant Stand

Plant stands are decorative and functional pieces that hold potted plants. Stands come in a variety of materials, from inexpensive plastic ones to more ornate metal stands. Easily make your own wooden plant stand using a combination of found wood in your yard or nearby forest, and an inexpensive wooden craft plaque. Sealing the pieces will keep them durable and resistant to moisture and wear from exposure. Use these stands indoors or outdoors.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut out a section of a piece of firewood or a fallen tree branch with the hand saw. The tree branch should be 12 inches in diameter. Cut a section that is 2 feet tall.

    • 2

Paint the branch section with a thin layer of exterior wood sealer according to the package directions on the sealer. Paint the top and bottom of a wood craft plaque 24 inches in diameter. Let both pieces dry for 24 hours.

    • 3

Cover the top of the branch cross section with wood glue and place the plaque on top. Stack heavy books on the plaque to keep pressure on it, and leave it for 24 hours so the glue can cure.

Remove the books. Set the plant stand in a sunny pot and put your potted plants on top.
