How to Convert a Craftsman EZ3 Mulching Blade

The Craftsman EZ3 riding mower can be converted to mulch grass instead of collecting it in a basket for disposal or composting. When the mulching plate is connected, grass is cut several times and redistributed back onto the lawn. This process contributes to a healthy lawn in the long run. Conversion from bagging to mulching simply involves installing the mulching plate supplied with the mower.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach the pair of latch hooks to the mulching plate before attaching it to the mower. Stand the plate on end with the widest part at the bottom. Push a weld nut through the latch hook and place a small lock washer and large washer on the other side. Place these parts over one of the screw holes and tighten a screw through from the back side to hold them in place. Repeat this process for the remaining screw hole so there are two latch hooks attached to the mulching plate.

    • 2

Raise and hold the deflector shield so it is in an upright position and slide the mulching plate over the front of the mower deck. The plate should be positioned as in Step 1, with the widest part at the bottom. The latch hooks should be in the bottom left corner and halfway up the right side.

    • 3

Loop the latch hooks through the holes on the front and back of the mower deck and let the deflector shield move back into position. The mower is now ready for mulching. It is not necessary to change blades.
