How to Make a Dibble Board

A dibble board is a piece of wood with knobs or tabs attached in evenly spaced rows on one side of it. The dibble board allows you to poke dozens of the same-sized holes into the ground at the same time, speeding the seed-planting process. Make your own dibble board with some inexpensive materials and a few tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the plywood in half to get two equal size pieces.

    • 2

Set aside one half and draw a grid on one side of the other half with each box in the grid 2 square inches.

    • 3

Drill a 1/2-inch hole into each grid intersection.

    • 4

Place the second plywood piece on top of the drilled plywood, line them up evenly and screw them together.

    • 5

Cut the wooden dowels into 2 1/2-inch long pieces.

    • 6

Cover one end of each dowel piece with wood glue and press them into the holes in the plywood.

    • 7

Screw two straps or handles onto the side of the dibble board opposite from the dowels and space apart enough for you to comfortably pick up and maneuver the device.

    • 8

Let your dibble board dry completely before using.
