Cut a length of 1/2 inch diameter copper or PVC piping into 2 1/2 inch sections. Use a handsaw. You will need one spacer for each corner, and one for the middle of each side, for a total of eight spacers.
Hold the lattice up to the wall. If you are attaching it to a wood or siding wall, look for nail heads that indicate a stud and attach at least one side of the lattice to studs.
Use a pencil to mark where the nails will go on the lattice. Make a mark in each corner, and one in the center of each side. Move the lattice out slightly and mark corresponding spots on the wall. For brick walls, use a piece of chalk.
Lay the lattice on the ground and drill pilot holes through the marks you made on the lattice. Drill pilot holes through the marks on the wall, as well. For brick walls, drill the pilot holes with a masonry bit and install a masonry shield into each hole.
Hold the lattice up against the wall so all the pilot holes align. Place the first spacer between the lattice and wall. Drill a screw through each lattice hole, through the spacer, and into the wall or masonry shield, starting in the upper left or right corner. Secure all four corners, then the sides.
