Conch Pots: How to Make

Conch shells are large sea shells. They have a spiral shape that creates an area that can hold potting soil. Large conchs can hold small plants or flowers, and would make an appropriate decorative pot for any beach-themed garden or landscape. You can also use them indoors near a window for houseplants. You will need to remove the salt and sand from the shell first, since the salt can alter the pH of the potting soil.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill your sink with warm water. Soak the conch in the water overnight to loosen any sand or other particles. Rinse the conch out and let it air dry.

    • 2

Turn the conch upside down so the opening is laying on a flat surface. Use an electric drill to drill two drainage holes in the rounded part of the shell facing you.

    • 3

Turn the shell back over and fill the opening with potting soil until it is level with the edges of the shell. You can then place seeds in the potting soil, or plant small seedlings in the potting soil.
