How to Clean the Carburetor on a Gas Featherlite Weed Eater That Doesn't Start

The carburetor on a gas Featherlite trimmer manufactured by Weed Eater regulates the engine’s fuel cycle. If fuel cannot reach the cylinder, combustion will not occur, and the trimmer will shut off. Most problems related to the fuel system involve a carburetor that prevents enough fuel from reaching the cylinder. When dirt or other fuel impurities become trapped inside the carburetor, they will need to be cleaned out to allow enough fuel to flow into the carburetor.

Instructions

  Loosen and remove the screws on the bottom plate of the carburetor. Take the bottom plate off. Pull off the diaphragm and diaphragm gasket, separating them if they are stuck together.

  Unscrew then remove the needle valve’s retaining screw on the underside of the carburetor. Hold your thumb over the spring-loaded portion of the needle valve, when unscrewing the retaining screw, to prevent the spring from flying off. Take out the needle, lever and spring.

  Loosen and remove the two screws that hold the primer bulb onto its retaining plate. Take the primer bulb off and push the bulb out of its retaining plate. Pull off the primer base and the reed valve.

  Soak all carburetor parts in a bath of carburetor cleaner overnight. Brush off any caked-on deposits on the metal parts only. Blow-dry the entire carburetor with compressed air.

  Reassemble the carburetor parts in the reverse order of removal.
