How to Troubleshoot a Yard-Man Snowblower That Won't Start

Shoveling snow is one back-breaking chore we could all do without. Yard-Man snowblowers and snow throwers make clearing large sections of driveway and sidewalks much easier than with a shovel. Since your snowblower is only used during one season, it is not surprising to find that the machine struggles to turn on when it is first pulled out of the shed. Proper troubleshooting will help you isolate the starting problem and get your Yard-Man up and running.

Instructions

    • 1

Set the choke to the "On" position and try to start the engine.

    • 2

Unscrew the cap on the fuel tank then look inside the tank. Replace the fuel if it looks like there is water inside, the fuel appears dirty or the snow blower has not been operated since last season. Fill the tank to the fill line.

    • 3

Wiggle the spark plug wire to make sure it is connected securely to the spark plug.

    • 4

Unscrew the spark plug with a wrench and inspect the end for rust.

    • 5

Locate the fuel shutoff valve near the fuel line. Make sure it is in the "Open" position. Check the fuel line by unscrewing the clips that hold it in place. Pull the fuel line off and look inside for clogs. Replace the fuel line if necessary.

Move the throttle to the "On" position if it is turned off.
