How to Remove a Chain on a Tool-less Homelite Saw

Many newer-model Homelite chain saws come equipped with a feature that allows you to remove many crucial parts from the saw without any tools. So, instead of using a wrench, you can unscrew the clutch cover plate by hand. You can also remove the bar and chain from the chain saw. However, the chain can still injure you, so always wear work gloves when handling a chain saw chain.

Disconnect the Homelite saw from its power source, either unplugging the electrical cord or unhooking the rubber spark plug boot from the spark plug.

Twist the chain cover lock knob, on the front of the chain cover, counterclockwise and take the knob off.

    • 3

Turn the chain tensioning knob back toward the “−“ sign. Slide the chain cover off the two metal posts.
