How to Treat a Barbecue Grill for Rust

When kept outside, barbecue grills are exposed to weather conditions that promote the development of rust. When exposed to damp conditions, chips in the paint of a barbecue will begin to decay due to the development of rust. It is best to treat rust as soon as it develops to prevent the spread of the rust, which can make the barbecue unusable. You can also take precautions to prevent the development of new rust.

Scour the rusted area with a wire brush to remove all the rust from the grill.

    • 4

Cover the surface with a rust converter using the instructions on the packaging. Usually, you apply it with a paintbrush. Allow the rust converter to dry.
