How to Install a Husqvarna Chainsaw Bar Adjustment Bolt

The bar adjustment bolt on a Husqvarna chain saw is placed just beside the bar posts on the clutch side of the saw. This bolt aids in making an adjustment that moves the bar tighter or more loosely against the bar posts and sprockets. This will also either tighten or loosen the chain against the bar, so it’s a crucial part for safe operation. If the bar adjustment bolt no longer applies enough pressure to tighten the chain, it will need to be replaced and reinstalled.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the chain saw’s ignition into the “Off” setting. Pull back on the front hand guard and deactivate the chain brake. Lift the rubber boot off the end of the spark plug for safety.

    • 2

Unscrew both bar nuts holding the clutch cover against the chain saw. Take the clutch cover, bar and chain off the saw.

    • 3

Unscrew the oiler plate, just to the right of the bar posts, which covers the bar adjustment bolt. Take the oiler plate off to access the bar adjustment bolt.

    • 4

Unscrew the bolt from the bar tensioner screw, using the wrench and screwdriver. Take the old tensioner screw, retainer and bolt out of the oiler area.

    • 5

Fit the new bolt into the oiler area. Fit the new screw into the hole and the retainer to the end of the screw. Tighten the screw to the bolt. Refit the oiler plate cover, chain, bar and clutch cover to the saw.
