Stop the trimmer and allow the engine to cool down. The engine must not be running while you work on the line.
Pull the guide plate with the old line off the bottom of the trimmer. Wipe away compacted plant material gathered around the cutting head.
Push the guide plate back, lining the arrow up with the "A" or "B" marking, depending on the type of line you plan to install. "A" is for medium or heavy cutting line, "B" is for thin line.
Insert both ends of the replacement strip of line through the holes in the cutting head and pull the ends through the other side. The line is now protruding several inches on each side of the cutting head. The line should be equal in length on both sides.
