How to Troubleshoot a Cub Cadet Zero-Turn Carb

The Cub Cadet Zero-Turn mower is a large lawnmower usually used by landscaping companies and professional mowing services. The mower deck is on casters, allowing it to turn on a point. This allows the unit to move around obstacles that are impossible to mow around with other riding mowers. Like all other mowers, the Cub Cadet Zero-Turn has a carburetor that handles the fuel mixture going into the engine. If the carburetor is not working properly, the mower will not run efficiently.

Instructions

    • 1

Unhook the lid of the mower and lift it up to access the engine.

    • 2

Check the fuel level in the gas tank if the mower is sputtering. Add more fuel if it is low or replace old or dirty fuel. Low fuel levels will cause the mower to sputter, which can be mistaken for carburetor problems.

    • 3

Squeeze the clamp to the fuel line on each side with a pair of pliers and remove it from the unit. Check the fuel line for clogs, which may cause carburetor issues. Clean out the tube with a can of compressed air.

    • 4

Pull the fuel filter off of the end of the fuel line and replace it with a new one if it appears clogged. Clogged fuel filters will prevent fuel from entering the carburetor.

    • 5

Remove the screw from the air filter cover. Remove the air filter if it is dirty and replace it. A dirty air filter may cause issues similar to a faulty carburetor.

    • 6

Take your Cub Cadet to a service professional to have the carburetor adjusted if the unit continues to sputter or die out when idling. Cub Cadet recommends professional adjusting to prevent damage to the carburetor.
