Specs on the Homelite Lawn Blower Original Yard Broom

Homelite – part of the TTI umbrella company, which includes branches such as Ryobi and Hoover – produces a wide range of lawn and garden implements, including chainsaws, generators, hedge trimmers, lawn mowers, pressure washers and trimmers. Among these products, the original Homelite Yard Broom took a central place among the company's leaf blower offerings.
  1. Basics

    • Homelite's original Yard Broom was a handheld, gas-powered leaf blower made of metal and plastic. The blower, model number 6167, measured 11.75 inches high and 18.25 inches long and weighed 9.6 pounds. Like all of Homelite's lawn tools, the Yard Broom came in red and black finish. The company recommended the Yard Broom for sweeping and collecting yard debris, including dead leaves and excess grass clippings.

    Technical Specs

    • The first iteration of the Homelite Yard Broom leaf blower featured a 25cc engine. This two-cycle engine produced only 69 decibels of noise. The blower had a maximum air velocity of 150 miles per hour and an air volume output of 350 cubic feet per minute. The original Yard Broom's gas tank had a fuel capacity of 22 ounces.

    Features

    • One of the Homelite Yard Broom's main attractions was its Down-the-Tube exhaust system, a proprietary feature of Homelite blowers. This system made for quieter and cleaner operation when compared to similar leaf blowers of the era. The blower's engine features air-cooling. Homelite positioned the Yard Broom as a quiet, lightweight and affordable leaf blower.

    Pricing and Availability

    • At the time of publication, Homelite had discontinued the original Yard Broom. Initially, the Yard Broom II replaced the first yard broom. As of 2011, Homelite no longer offers Yard Broom branded blowers, instead offering the the UT series of electric blowers and sweepers. The UT09510, a two-cycle electric blower, serves as the closet cousin of the original Yard Broom. Refurbished Yard Brooms can be found sparingly at online department stores. As of 2011, these models retailed for around $60.
