Place a circular light 2-cup wooden bowl on a flat surface. Looking at the bowl from the side, use a marker to place a dot 3/4 inch below the central point of the bowl's flat side.
Hold a handsaw on the right edge -- or left edge, if you are left-handed -- of the bowl's circular tip. Place the saw's length parallel to the flat surface on which the bowl rests.
Saw in a descending curved line between the bowl's edge and the dot and then in an ascending curved line between the dot and the opposite edge of the bowl. Check the bowl from the dot's side to ensure it has a crescent-like shape.
Check the bowl from above and try to visualize an equilateral triangle within the bowl's circle. Mark each angle of the equilateral triangle with a dot on the bowl's walls. Absolute precision with the angles' position is unnecessary, so you don't need a protractor for this task.
Use a drill to open a hole through each dot. Also, open a small ventilation and drainage hole -- no more than 3/4 inch in diameter -- at the bottom of the bowl.
Attach the basket chain strands' hooks on the three holes -- not the ventilation hole -- to complete the crescent-shaped, wooden hanging basket.
