How to Use a Half Coupling Fitting

A standard coupling connector has two threaded ends and is used to attach two pieces of threaded pipe together. A half coupling has only one threaded side and is most commonly used to connect hoses and pipes to various applications related to the home and in automobiles. Using a half coupling fitting is not difficult if you have the proper tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the hose or pipe to the desired length with a hack saw. Make your cut as straight as possible and avoid creating a jagged or otherwise rough edge.

    • 2

For couplings that require that you insert a hose into them, grip the outside of the fitting with pliers and use force to bend the fitting around the hose to secure it.

    • 3

For couplings that you inserted over the end of the fitting, attach a hose clamp over the hose and tighten it down to secure the hose onto the fitting.

    • 4

For metal pipes, insert the pipe into the fitting and weld the fitting onto the pipe to secure the two pieces together.

    • 5

For PVC pipes, glue the two pieces together with PVC glue and allow to dry overnight before you run any water through the pipe.
