How to Hang Basket Succulents With Chicken Wire

Succulents are a category of plant found worldwide that are characterized by broad, thick stems that are used to store water. Although succulents can be any number of different kinds of plant, many of them are cacti. Some succulents do very well when hung, and naturally spill over the sides and flow toward the ground. If you do not have any hanging baskets, however, you can always improvise one, with chicken wire, for instance.

Things You'll Need

  • 3-by-3-foot chicken wire
  • Tin snips
  • Pig rings
  • Pliers
  • 3-by-3-foot landscape fabric
  • String
  • Key ring

Instructions

    • 1

Cut two diagonal sections out of the section of chicken wire with tin snips so that you have a triangle. A large triangle will result in a large hanging basket.

    • 2

Join the two cut sides of the triangle together to form a cone. Secure the two sides together with pig rings, clamped shut with a pair of pliers.

    • 3

Line the inside of the cone with landscape fabric, which will keep the soil in.

    • 4

Attach string to three evenly spaced points along the outside of the top of the cone. The string should be the length that you want to hang the basket from.

    • 5

Tie each of the strings to a key ring or something similar. Hold the basket by the key ring and ensure that the strings are all even in length, and the basket is roughly level.

    • 6

Place the key ring on a hanging hook, and plant your succulents.
