How to Hide a Garden Hose for a Sprinkler

You probably don’t enjoy moving your garden hose from the garden shed or garage to the outdoor faucet just to water the lawn, and leaving the hose out can be a blight on your otherwise beautifully landscaped yard. You can have the best of both worlds by cleverly hiding your garden hose, along with your sprinkler, inside or behind items that normally might not be used for a hose.

  • 1 1/2-inch drill bit

Instructions

  1. Terracotta Pot

    • 1

Drill a hole through the side wall of a large terracotta planter along the base. Use a 1 1/2-inch drill bit designed for cutting through the soft clay of the pot.

    • 2

Place the pot at or near your faucet. Insert the female end of the hose through the hole you created in the pot, threading it from the inside of the pot to the outside. Coil the remainder of the hose in the pot, and attach your sprinkler to the male end.

    • 3

Pull the hose and sprinkler from the top of the pot to water your lawn. Return the hose and sprinkler to the pot after you water to hide the hose and the sprinkler.

    Wooden Storage Bench

    • 4

Place an old decorative wooden storage bench in your yard near your outdoor faucet.

    • 5

Drill two 2-inch holes with a 2-inch hole saw at opposite ends of the storage bench. Insert 2-inch plastic desk grommets into the holes so the lip of the grommet rests on the exterior of the storage bench. Secure the grommets to the wood with caulk.

    • 6

Thread the female end of the hose from the inside of the bench through the grommet closest to your outdoor faucet. Thread the male end from the inside of the bench through the grommet at the opposite end of the bench.

    • 7

Attach the female end of your garden hose to the outdoor faucet. Pull the male end from the storage bench as far as the hose will reach.

    • 8

Open the bench to gently pull the male end of the hose back into the bench until you reach the location on your lawn where you want your sprinkler. Attach the sprinkler to the male end.

    • 9

Remove the sprinkler after you finish watering. Disconnect the female end from the faucet. Pull the male end of the hose into the bench, carefully coiling it. Do the same with the female end. Place the sprinkler in the bench and close the lid.

    Hose Reel

    • 10

Mount a garden hose reel onto the side of your home behind your shrubs or any decorative garden art large enough to hind the reel. Use masonry screws or wood screws, depending on your home’s exterior walls, to secure the reel directly above your outdoor faucet.

    • 11

Attach the short hose from the hose reel to your outdoor faucet. Attach the female end of the garden hose to the connector on the reel. Roll the garden hose onto the reel.

    • 12

Unroll the garden hose from the hidden reel. Attach your sprinkler to your hose. Once you finish watering, turn the handle on the hose reel clockwise to coil the hose neatly onto the reel. Disconnect the sprinkler and then hide it behind the shrubs or garden art.
