Move the Poulan Pro to a location with a flat and level surface where you will have plenty of room to work. Set the parking brake. Turn off the ignition and remove the key.
Open the engine hood. Look for the black wire leading to the spark plug, which sticks out of the side of the engine. Grasp the top of the spark plug boot firmly and pull off the spark plug.
Look for the battery inside the engine compartment or underneath the seat. The location depends on your Poulan Pro model. Newer models for residential and small garden use will have the battery underneath the seat. These are square, about six inches on each side and topped by two terminals. Follow the red terminal connection until it terminates in a series of wires, including one white and one black.
Locate the engine switch. If the battery is beneath the seat, the switch will be in this location. In larger models, the switch is mounted on the inside of the engine compartment in front of the driver position. The switch is circular and has two prongs sticking out of it.
Slip the connection terminal on the black wire to one of the terminals onto one of the switch prongs.
Slip the white wire onto the second switch prong.
Replace the boot over the spark plug.
