How to Feed Birds Using Peanut Butter

Purchase a pine cone to use in making your bird feeder, or pick one from your yard or local park. Pine cones are a natural choice for this project, because birds are familiar with their smell and texture.

Cut a length of ribbon or twine to hang your bird feeder with. Tie one end around the second or third section from the tip of the cone.

Cover your work surface with newspaper to minimize any mess. Hold the pine cone at its smallest tip, then use a butter knife or craft stick to spread a thick layer of the creamy peanut butter over the pine cone's surface and under its "leaves."

Set the peanut-butter-covered pine cone on wax paper. Pour some bird seed into a bowl that is wide enough for you to comfortably roll the pine cone around in it.

Roll the pine cone in the bowl until it is fully covered in bird seed. If there are any empty spaces, cover them with more peanut butter and roll the pine cone once again.

Head outdoors with your peanut butter bird feeder and use the ribbon to tie it to a branch in your favorite tree, or from a bird feeder stand or in another location that allows birds easy access.

Repeat the steps above to make additional bird feeders to hang from other trees in yours or your neighbors yard.
