How to Repair a Broken Concrete Fountain Figure

Concrete statuary is heavy. For that reason, outdoor fountains with concrete figures as their focal point are usually left outside year round, making them susceptible to the wear and tear the changing weather puts on them, not to mention dramatic seasonal changes in the colder climates. Concrete absorbs water. If that water isn't dried out by the time it freezes outside, the trapped water in the concrete freezes, causing pieces of concrete to break away from the main figure. Thankfully, there's an easy way to make concrete repairs.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out the pieces of broken concrete. Brush off any dirt and grit with a clean paint brush. Also brush dirt and debris off the main figure.

    • 2

Mix a two-part epoxy specially formulated for gluing concrete back together per manufacturer's instructions. Mix the epoxy on cardboard using a clean Popsicle stick.

    • 3

Apply the epoxy to two mating surfaces and press them together. Wrap duct tape around the joined concrete to apply added pressure and ensure a tight seal.

    • 4

Allow the epoxy to cure for 24 hours before removing the duct tape.
