Position the wooden pallet on the ground outdoors so that it is level and away from anything flammable such as shrubs, leaves or trees.
Lay a single layer of the red bricks onto the surface of the pallet in even rows.
Wet the sand so it is damp and easily molded. Be careful not to add too much water or the sand will become runny and not stand properly.
Place the moist sand onto the brick layer and mold it into a symmetrical hemisphere. This sand structure will support the clay exterior while it dries.
Wet newspaper so that it is damp to the touch, then layer it onto the sand hemisphere in a two-sheet thickness.
Wet your hands, then mold the clay over the support structure in a 3-inch thickness. Mold the seams of clay together with your hands to create one uniform clay exterior. Allow the clay to dry for three to four hours before continuing.
Cut an arch into the side of the hemisphere with an apex that reaches 2/3 of the way up the hemisphere. This arch will act as the opening for the oven.
Pull the now-dry sand and newspaper material out through the arched hole. After the dome has completely dried for a full week, you can insert firewood into the opening and start a fire.
