How to Make Concrete Figures

An uncomplicated method of mold making with a latex mold solution found at craft stores can enable you to create your own concrete figures. After you make the mold, use it to make a series of the concrete figures. Make a personal artistic statement by decorating a garden or patio with these long-lasting concrete creations. The concrete figures will also make wonderful holiday gifts for a garden-loving friend or relative.

Things You'll Need

  • 3 lbs. air dry clay
  • Plastic bucket
  • Latex rubber mold formula
  • Sharp knife
  • 3 lbs. cement

Instructions

      Fashion the clay into a creative figure of choice that will fit inside the plastic bucket. Dry the clay figure overnight.

      Place the figure inside the plastic bucket. Mix the latex mold formula according to the manufacturer's directions and pour it over the clay sculpture, completely covering the figure.

      Let the latex harden for one hour. Pull the firm latex from the bucket carefully. Slice the latex in even halves with the knife. Remove the clay figure.

      Mix the cement with water until it is the consistency of pudding. Fill the cavities in both sides of the latex mold with the wet cement. Place both halves of the mold back into the bucket. Let the cement set overnight.

      Remove the mold from the bucket, pull apart the latex and take the completed concrete figure from the mold.
