How to Hang a Platform on a Bird Feeder

When you hang up a bird feeder, you may feel frustrated when some of the seeds from the feeder fall onto the ground. Instead of allowing these seeds to be wasted, you can remedy the problem by installing a platform onto the existing bird feeder that will catch the falling seeds. Everything you need in order to create a handmade bird feeder platform can be purchased inexpensively from any home improvement supply or hardware store.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a 12-inch square wooden board flat onto a table top, and sand the entire surface of the wood board using medium-grain sandpaper. Move the sandpaper in small, circular motions to smooth down all of the edges and rough patches.

    • 2

Sand the wooden board with fine-grain sandpaper to make the wood sleek and soft. Move the sandpaper in the same small, circular motions.

    • 3

Wipe off the wood board with a washcloth to remove any sawdust or debris.

    • 4

Insert a hot glue stick into the end of a hot glue gun, then plug the hot glue gun into an electrical outlet to heat up for 10 minutes.

    • 5

Squeeze a line of hot glue along each side, placing the hot glue lines one-fourth inch from the edge on each side.

    • 6

Place a 12 inch long wooden dowel onto each hot glue line. Allow the hot glue to cool and harden for two minutes.

    • 7

Squeeze a silver dollar-sized dollop of hot glue onto the center of the wooden platform, then press the bottom of the bird feeder onto the hot glue dollop. Position the bird feeder in the center of the platform, then allow the hot glue to cool and harden for two minutes before hanging up the bird feeder.
