How to Mount the Surface for a Cast Stone Garden Fountain

Cast stone garden fountains come in all shapes and sizes that require a mount. This provides the lawn ornament with stability and a durable foundation. Installing the mount over grassy areas and even gravel prevents the heavy fountain from tipping over when the earth underneath it becomes soggy with rain or settles. Mounting this type of surface ensures that your cast stone garden fountain lasts for many years in your landscaping.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick a spot to place your cast stone garden fountain. Many are self-contained and have a water pump that sits in the fountain pedestal that goes on top of the mount. Choose a location that is not near trees because leaves and other debris detract from the aesthetics by landing in the water.

    • 2

Measure the pedestal or base of the cast stone garden fountain with a yardstick. For the most attractive look and stability, choose a pavestone or solid stone block that is two to three times the diameter of the base.

    • 3

Lay the pavestone or block mount in the area you want to place the fountain. Outline the area with stakes or other markers and remove the stone.

    • 4

Dig a hole with a small garden shovel for the pavestone or block. Do this in the same depth and dimensions as the stone. This allows the mount to be on the same level as the ground and adds stability.

    • 5

Set the pavestone or block in the space you dug. Push the excess soil firmly along the sides of the stone to make the mount more secure. Continue installing your cast stone garden fountain according to the instructions.
