How to Paint Scenes on a Garden Shed

Whether your garden shed is constructed of wood or plastic, you can beautify it by painting your favorite scene on any of its many surfaces. It's not hard to do and can be a very satisfying project---something you can be proud of and enjoy each time you look at your shed. Furthermore, it's a great way to personalize your shed, making it unlike any other shed in the neighborhood! There are no special tools required, just paint, brushes and your imagination.

Things You'll Need

  • Sketch pad
  • Ruler or tape measure
  • Pencil or grease pencil
  • Enamel paint
  • Paint brushes of varying sizes
  • Turpentine or paint thinner

Instructions

      Sketch the scene you desire on paper, determining composition, color and detail. If this is your first painting endeavor keep your sketch simple.

      Measure the area on the shed on which you want your scene to appear. Divide the area into four quadrants, drawn on the shed lightly with pencil or a grease pencil.

      Divide your sketch into quadrants.

      Rough out the quadrant on the shed that corresponds with the quadrant on your sketch. Repeat this process with the remaining three quadrants.

      Fill in the sketch on the shed with the desired colors, using enamel paint and beginning at the top of the scene and working down.

      Use turpentine or paint thinner to clean your brushes.
