How to Level a Storage Shed

Prepare a pad for your new shed before it arrives, and locate it so you can place the shed on the pad in a visually pleasing manner. The pad's location must drain well; don't place the shed in a soggy part of the yard. Further, place the pad in an easy-to-access location. Follow a few simple steps to level the pad in preparation for your new shed.

Instructions

    • 1

      Put on your safety gear.

    • 2

Remove the ground cover where you plan to place the shed, plus an additional 12 inches around the perimeter. A shovel, sod cutter or rototiller will work.

    • 3

Use straight 2-by-4 lumber and a 4-foot carpenter's level to add or remove soil for the shed's pad until you've leveled the soil.

    • 4

Put landscape fabric over the dirt, then add 4 inches of gravel.

    • 5

Rake the gravel until level. Use the 2-by-4 lumber and carpenter's level to check.
