How to Plug in a Temperature Switch

A temperature switch or adapter allows climate control in grow-houses and plant nurseries. By adding a temperature switch to a standard outlet and then plugging in the heaters or grow lights, an added level of adjustment results. Use temperature switches to help maintain a level temperature for producing sensitive vegetables or flowers in harsh environments.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the retaining screw in the center of the 120v wall socket but leave the faceplate on.

    • 2

Push the temperature switch into the wall socket, making sure the prongs enter fully. Line up the "pigtail" -- the small metal bar in the temperature switch -- into the screw hole.

    • 3

Insert the screw through the pigtail and back into the screw hole and tighten it down to secure the temperature switch and faceplate to the wall.

    • 4

Plug in the grow lights or heat strip and adjust the settings off the temperature switch by turning the dial or knob, depending on the model.
